Borderline Personality Disorders, defense mechanisms, RorschachAbstract
The study of the defensive mechanisms using the Rorschaclfs technique has been as important contribution to the differential diagnosis of psychopathological groups. The aim of this study was to identify and compare, in two points in time, test and retest after approximately 5 years, the way of expressing primitive defenses in the Rorschach's protocols or 5 adult psychiatric patients attended in the University Hospital, Medical School of Ribeirão Preto and diagnosed as Borderline. The qualitalive aspects of the Rorschach's protocols related to the symbolic content or the responses and to the deviant verbalizations were considered as elements or analysis. The results, from the evolutionary point of view, indicated the permanence of defensive manifestation in course of time. In nearly ali studied cases defenses as splitling, negation, depreciation and projective identification were identified and splitting stands out in the literature as a basic defense mechanism.
