Abstract

Popper's views concerning the methodology of History were developped within the framework of his ideal of empirical science. Notwithstanding his point that there are innerent peculiarities to historical inquiry. Popper is not willing to admit that they raise
many difficulties to his thesis on the methodotogical unity between the sciences of the real world. In this article the author tries to give an account of and to assess critically some of Popper's positions concerning the epistemology of History. As a matter of conclusion are stressed: 1. the consequences to History that follows from Popper's ideal of empirical science; 2) the imptications of Poppers view that "we write the History that interests us"; and 3) Popper's way of interpreting the objectlve understanding of human actions and the Principle of Rationality that seems to bring him near to Hermeneutics.
