Abstract

The paper discusses Carnap's view that mathematics should be seen as a part of logic, and attempts to show in what ways
Carnap’s version of this logicist view of mathematics differs from that of Frege. Particular attention is given to his account
of logical truth in terms of linguistic convention. Certain problems with Carnap’s version of conventionalism are discussed
and some suggestions are made concerning the possibility of developing a more satisfactory conventionalist account of logical necessity.
