Abstract

This paper aims to present the debate between Jurgen Habermas nad John Rawls, which took place in The Journal of Philosophy (Vol. XCII, n3. MArch 1995). There, Habermas published an article named "Reconciliation through the pubic use of reason: remarks on John Rawls's political liberalism", in which he criticizes the main ideas of Rawls Since A theory of Justice (1971). At the first place, he questioned the validity of original position as foundation of the deontologic character of justice. At the second place, he affirms that Rawls confound "acceptation" with "acceptability" concerning the "overlapping consensus". At the third place, Rawls would put forward the liberal basic rights over the democratic principle. At last, Habermas evaluates the role of Political Philosophy in the present context of "post-metaphysical" thought. In this article, I try to answer to each one of these objecions, supported by Rawls writings, including his "Reply to Habermas" publishe in the same Jounal.
