Michael Walzer intends in his bookThe Spheres ofJwstice to make compatible two aspects of our shared concept of social jus.tice: (1) the acknowtedgement of the sociatly ascribed meaning oÍthe goods in view of the determination of their rules for distribution and (2) the possibitity of doing a critical discourse relativety to these rules. The article demonstrates that such a formal conception of justice can be applied only for cukuratly homogeneous cultures and hence does not supply any possibility of mediation in distributive conflicts
inside multicultural societies.
