CHAMADA 2026 | Dossier: Spirituality as a mechanism for suicide prevention: A look at its impact and relevance
The dossier seeks to present the results of research that attempted to understand how spiritual and religious practices can alleviate feelings of hopelessness and helplessness, favoring a more proactive approach in the face of life's adversities. It embraces articles that address the relationship between spirituality and overcoming suicidal ideation in social categories such as: young people, older people, health professionals, people with physical and/or mental illnesses or in other challenging situations in their lives. The articles may use the interdisciplinary bibliographic review methodology in the areas of Religious Sciences, Theology, Gerontology, Psychology, Sociology or other related areas. It can also rely on field approaches that analyze surveys, health reports, and case studies. The articles in the dossier could point to ways of integrating spirituality as an element of healthcare, contributing to the development of policies and practices that value more humanized and welcoming approaches.
