Abstract

Aiming to characterize the iron-deficiency anemia in primary health service, 359 children aging from O to 24 months were studied. Physical, biochemical, dietetic and therapeutic data were collected. Prevalence of symptoms of anemia was 13%. Estimated prevalence of anemia was 12% and iron-deficiency anemia was 11%. Positive association of anemia with malnutrition was observed. Relation of anemia with breast-feeding and treatment was compromised due to subregister of data.
