Este artigo investiga o Cristianismo antigo a partir das construções simbólicas do Apocalipse de Paulo. A pesquisa adota uma abordagem explicativa, analisando a estrutura textual do documento, suas representações infernais e as figuras monstruosas nele presentes. A partir da teoria do monstruoso de Jeffrey Jerome Cohen, o artigo examina essas entidades enquanto mecanismos de controle social e construção identitária no Cristianismo antigo, particularmente no contexto monástico egípcio. Utilizando uma perspectiva histórico-cultural, esta análise busca interpretar os significados e funções dessas imagens monstruosas, iluminando seu uso na configuração da experiência moral e religiosa de comunidades cristãs durante o processo de cristianização do Império romano no século IV.
