Abstract

To comprehend the strategies of reconversion of use in central áreas of historical-cul-tural interest from the point of view of accessibility and urban mobility, i.e., relations of copresence of people by the open public space due to the quantity, diversity and con-centration of activities in buildings, in order to find urban quality parameters that assist in their recovery, from cultural and socioeconomic perspective, is the objective of the present research. The conceptual substantiation considers that intervention strategies centered on the human scale attract movement towards the centralities and, conseuently, foment new uses for existing buildings, reinvigorating the dynamics of urban space. The proposed method, based on the literature review, analyzes comparatively the cases of central areas of Copenhagen and Melbourne, resulting in a summary table that shows similarity between the proposals and their relation with possible criteria that give quality to the urban landscape. The results indicate that the socio-spatial dynamics can be achieved when the city starts to be compactly considered, at eye level, and where interventions are guided by quality fundamentals related to protection, comfort and sa-tisfaction, in other words, the reconstitution of urban centers is a reflection of adequate conditions of accessibility and urban mobility
