Development of social abilities in adolescents with facial deformities

Abstract

The aim ofthis study was to analyse lhe dificulties insocial abilities and modeling them at certain areas in adolescents with congenital or acquircd deformities. Thc ages of thc fivc subjects in this study ranged from 12 to 15 years old;one ofthe subject was female; and the four others were male. Ali of them were under aclive treatment for rehabilitation at SOBRAPAR. The procedure held consisted of eight sections. for each of the sections were prepared different kinds of activities for workgroups, enphasing social abilities. The sessions had a previous determined time, varying between 60 and 80 minutes. Ali sessions were vídeo taped and transcribed as functional analysis. The outline consisted of a pre-test, training (eight sessions) anda post-test. The pre-test was used as baseline for further evaluations. Datashowed improvement insocial behavior specially on those which had negative cvaluation on thc pre-tcst, such as asking for teacher's help, stand up for their own rights and talk to people from the other sex. The results have also pointed out that the group was a good social support concerning thc social problems mentioned by the subjects.
