This article approaches the research conducted by a priest, Father Lebret in Colombia in the 1950's. More specifically, it draws a reflective picture with reference to both the manner in which the research was elaborated, its results, and their repercussion on the Colombian political and academic scenario. Its hypothesis was that the instability of the political scenario of the period prevented wide dissemination and implementation of the considerations pointed out in Lebret’s studies in this country. Recognizing that the studies and courses developed by Lebret, whose object of knowledge was the Latin-American
city as knowledge object, were of great importance, and considering his reality and
social category — idea inserted in the School of Humanism — one understands that
his ideas are still relevant for the discussion of contemporary town planning practice.
Thus the article is divided into three parts: a reflection on the Colombian political
context, the methodology and research used by Lebret within this context, and lastly, the
results and their application.
