Abstract

The understanding of sacred accompanies humanity over time, where its symbolic reading can be seen in the natural environment through landscapes. This article analyzes five cultural landscapes that have natural attributes related to the sacred, searching for the identification and understanding of these meanings for their native peoples. As a database, nomination files for the inclusion of these landscapes in the world heritage list were used. As a method for data processing, content analysis was chosen. As a result, the research identifies the individual readings of landscapes based on environmental characteristics as well as several common points in existing attributes in landscapes and also in the reading of the meanings though different cultural groups.
