ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE: CONTEMPORARY CONCEPTS IN ICOMOS CHARTERS

The aim of the study was to investigate the history and development of the contemporary
concept of heritage regarding historical buildings, monuments and sites, the evolution
of these ideas and principles, and its contribution towards an international approach to architectural heritage conservation. The study focused on the modern conservation theory,
which is based on a critical-historical evaluation, and its influence on international
charters and policies of the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and
Restoration of Cultural Property and International Council on Monuments and Sites
by means of a contemporary understanding of the cultural heritage in the 20th century.
