Abstract

Rio de Janeiro is facing new urban dynamics stimulated by the economic growth of the
city and the Country. Although it has an important collection of works that belong to the history of Brazilian Architecture, the city, which was relatively absent from the pages of the specialized media, is at present a territory increasingly ambitioned by large international
firms. In this paper we intend to argue, however, that it is possible to find in the metropolis of Rio a series of accomplishments belonging to different moments of its urban history that are incredibly in alignment with the direction that the international urban and architectural debate has recently taken. References which, once updated and published, can help us envision and develop an attitude more in tune with the metropolitan condition of our cities as well as redirect architectural and urban design education.
