Abstract

Studies with North-American subjects based on Kohlberg's theory of moral judgment present evidence that non-delinquent adolescents reach higher levels of moral judgment than delinquent adolescents. This study employed Kohlberg's technique in order to investigate this difference in the Brazilian population. The subjects were 40 institucionalized subjects with a mean age of 16 years, out of which twenty (10 of each sex) were delinquents and twenty were non-delinquents (10 of each sex). An ANOVA revealed significant differences in moral judgment between delinquents and non-delinquents, but there were no sexdifferences. These results confirm the findings with North-American samples.
