DEFICIÊNCIA MENTAL: LIMITAÇÕES INTELECTUAIS OU COMPROMETIMENTOS EMOCIONAIS? ELEMENTOS PARA UM DIAGNÓSTICO DIFERENCIAL
Abstract
In this research we tried to develop some ideas about differential diagnosis between Mental Deficiency and Psicoses. We held, based on our previous experience, that the commonly used Intelligence Scales were insufficient to do so, and that a diagnostic interview with the children would be better. We examined 15 children attending the APE de Campinas school along with their parents and teachers. These children had benn submitted to other psychological tests but the results were not enlightning. At the end of our work we found that two of the fifteen children were Mentaly Deficient, onde was normal and twelve and severe mental disturbances, such as neuroses and psychoses.
