Abstract

There are few studies on the impacts of mindfulness on interpersonal relationships in the context of social distancing. This study aimed to explore, through a qualitative methodology, the potential benefits of the online protocol entitled “Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention” for interpersonal relationships among university students during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 pandemic. A total of 112 university students participated in the intervention. Data were collected through field journals and group interviews. Content analysis was conducted using QSR NVivo 12 software. After the intervention, participants reported improved regulation of reactive responses, increased awareness of thoughts, sensations, emotions, and behaviors, and better inference of others’ emotional states. The online Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention protocol was perceived as a potential resource for improving interpersonal relationships among university students during the pandemic.
