Evaluation of microbiology teaching in the medicine course at PUCCAMP

The authors make an evaluation of the students expectations, previous requirements, pedagogic and didactic aspects and contents of Microbioiogy taught in the Medicine Course - second year class, at Pontificia Universidade Católica de Campinas, Brazil, 1992 to 1994. The first analysis showed the following results: students are very interested in learning about microorganisms life cycle, infections etiology, microorganims interaction with host, prophytaxis and treatment. They have good knowtedge of to disciplines considered as previous
requirements. They are also interested in making bibliographic research, but they do not know how to do it and they believe that differentiated evaluation methods shouldbe used. Other analyses showed that most students know the discipline program and they
take advantage of its basic contents, but they have difficulty in memorizing bacterial, viral and mycotic agents . They considered the bibliography adequate, but they mentioned the need of support people and a handbook to improve learning in pratical classes. Based on this results, changes in evaluation and learning
processes have been made for a relationship between ate discipline contents and the students future profession.
