EPIDEMIOLOGIC PROFILE OF PATIENTS WITH FACIAL FRACTURES

Abstract

Objective

The objective is to carry out a retrospective study of 396 cases of facial fractures attended by the oral and maxillofacia/ surgery department of the Hospital Regional do Agreste in the city of Caruaru, State of Pernambuco, Brazil.

Methods

Three hundred and sixty three files of patients with facial fractures were analyzed, resu/ting in a total of 396 fractures. They were analyzed according to gender, age, causes and banes affected.

Results

Ma/e patients constituted 83.47% of the sample, only 16.53% being tema/e. The main age group affected was between 21 and 30 years o/d for the ma/e group and between 11 and 20 years o/d for the females. Road accidents were the most frequent cause, fo/lowed by falis and physical aggression in both groups. Regarding the banes fractured, the mandib/e was the most affected bane in the ma/e group, followed by the nasal banes, zygoma and maxilla, while in the tema/e group, the nasal banes were the most affected, followed by the mandible, zygoma and maxi//a.

Conclusion

There is a greater occurrence of fractures in ma/e individuais in the 2nd and 3rd decades of their tives, the most common etiology being road accidents and the mandible and nasal banes being the most fractured ones.
