Abstract

Bladder cancer is the most common neoplasm of the urinary tract and its main symptom is gross hematuria. The most frequent histological presentation is transitional cell carcinoma and 20%, of these cases spread to a thin layer of connective tissue (called lamina propria) which is associated with higher risk of spreading by contiguity and hematogenous and lymph node metastasis. This paper describes a case of a 65-yearold patient with recurring episodes of gross hematuria secondary to transitionaI cell carcinoma of the bladder. The neoplasm and metastasis to the aortic valve were only diagnosed post mortem during a necropsy, probably because of the poor cell differentiation and advanced stage. Transitional cell carcinoma metastasis to a heart valve has not been previously mentioned in the literature.
