Abstract

Systems of Paulownia imperialis floral reproduction,
diversity, frequency and constancy of insects visiting at
different hours were studied. The collections (field work) consisted of insects behavior observations, followed by their capture. P. imperialis flowers had a large diversity of insects visiting, belonging to 8 insect orders (mainly Hymenoptera) and hummingbirds. The insect species constant were the bees Apis mellifera, Plebeia droryana, Tetragonisca angustula and social wasp Polybia ignobilis, but the two first were the most frequent too. A. mellifera was more active during the morning (10:00-11 :00 a.m. and 12:00-13:00 p.m.) and P. droryana at 12:00-13:00 p.m. and 14:00-15:00 p.m.. A. mellifera,Bombus morio and Eulaema nigrita were considered effective pollinators and the hummingbird Eupetomena macroura. Statistics analysis showed that P. droryana exhibited significant correlation with luminosity, temperature and humidity, A. mellifera exhibited significant correlation with time and luminosity. Reproduction manual test showed P.
imperialis is selfcompatible that require pollinator agents.
