FEEDING OF PERCICHTHYS COLHUAPIENS/ MAC DONAGH, 1955 (P/SCES: PERC/CHTHYIDAE) IN THE RIVER NEGRO UPPER BAS/N, ARGENTINA

The diet of the largemouth perch - Percichthys colhuapiensis - in the Negro River basin, was studied. Differences were observed in thefeeding habits among specimens from between three localities, particular/y in the secondary prey. ln the Mari Menuco reservoir the principal food was the patagonic si/verside, amphipods and chironomid larvae. ln the Pellegrini /ake chironomid /arvae, si/verside and amphipods were dominant. ln the Limay River the dominant food was chironomid larvae and Aegla sp. (Decapoda). ln these areas largemouth perch show mixed carnivorous behaviour, with icthiophagic trends, and cannibalism in o/d fish is observed.
