FIRST RECORO OF STENELLA COERULEOALBA MEYEN, 1833 [CETACEA, DELPHINIDAE) ON THE COAST OF BAHIA STATE, INCLUDING A REVIEW OF THE SPECIES IN BRAZILIAN WATERS

AfemaleStriped Dolphin(Stenella coeruleoalba) Meyen, 1833, 228cm total /ength, was found stranded dead on September 1 st, 1999 on Praia do Forte beach (12º 34 'S e 037º 59 'W), Mata de São João, Bahia, northeast Brazil. The species was identíjied based on co/oration pattern and externa! morphologic characteristics. The skeleton, parasites, tissues and photos are housed in the Scientific Co/lection of the Marine Mammals Project (CCPM0061). The present record is the first for the coast of Bahia state. This paper a/so study presented the revision of the registrations of S.coeruleoalba in Brazilian waters.
