TYPOLOGY OF COASTAL LAKE ECOSYSTEMS OF ESPÍRITO SANTO STATE, BRAZIL

The physical and chemical composition of water and sediment of eight coas tal lakes between 1993 and 1995, as part of a limnological survey plain in Espírito Santo State, Brazil, were studied. The variables that were measured were: depth, transparency (Secchi disk), temperature, pH, conductivity, saturated and dissolved oxygen, total phosphorus, total organic nitrogen, cation exchange capacities {CTC) and organic matter. Samples were taken in dry and rainy seasons. Cluster Analysis and Principal Components Analysis were used. lt was possible to show that lhe sampling points differed regarding the variables, especially total-N in the water, total-? in the sediment, CTC and organic matter. The statistical analysis showed a stronger seasonal variation, making clear the importance of rainfall on the dynamics of these lakes.
