NOTES ABOUT THE FEEDING HABITATS OF THE METAMORFOSEAD YOUNG OF ALBULA VULPES (LINNAEUS, 1758) (ACTINOPTERYGIL
ALBULIDAE) AT ITAPEMA BEACH, TODOS OS SANTOS BAY, BAHIA

The gut contents of 282 young specimens of A. vulpes gathered between August, 1998 and October, 1998, at ltapema Beach (Todos os Santos Bay, Bahia state, about 12°42 'S - 38º45 'W) were examined. A total of 23 food items were identified. With reference to the frequency of occurrence, the main items were sediments (96,42%), Crutacea Amphipoda (79,21%), digested organic matter (DOM, 44, 09%), remains of Crustacea Decapoda (30, 11%) and material not identified (24,3 7%). With reference to the numerical frequency, there was a high predominance of Crustacea Amphipoda (67,57%) followed by remains of Crustacea Decapoda (16, 03%) and Crustacea Decapoda Dendrobranchiata (shrimps, 4,94%). At Jtapema Beach, A. vulpes presents a carnivorous feeding habit with a predominance of Crustacea.
