PREFERENCE OF Jenynsia cf multidentata BY THE SIZE OF MOSQUITO LARVAE

The preference of Jenynsia cf multidentata by the size of mosquito larvae was analysed through a laboratory experiment. Fish were divided into three groups according to their size (x1= 16,0 mm; x2= 21,9 mm; x3= 31,6 mm). Larvae were divided into three group sizes and the preference using the Ivlev index for stomach-duct analysis after one hour of exposure was studied. The results showed the preference for the larva´s medium size for all fish sizes. One specimen with an average of Stl= 23,5 mm eats a mimimun of 8.6 larvae/ hour.
