Abstract

The pacu is one of the most important Brazilian fish for commerce and aquaculture. lnterest in the physiological behavior of this species is based on the context that the pacu is a tropical species, which has a preference for fruit and presents specific nutritional patterns as we/1 as having a large capacity to store fat. Over a period of 24 hours, the feeding behavior was studied of pacu reared in fish cages. Catches were performed every 4 hours; 6 fish were sacrificed and blood samples were collected to determine the lipid and blood glucose plasma concentration. Then the liver and musc!e samples were collected and used to evaluate the glycogen reserves, using laboratory methods. For the purposes of statistical analysis, the Shapiro Wilk normality test was carried out, followed by the Tukey post-test (p<D.05). The results showed that the liver and muscle glycogen reserves were significantly different during the period of analysis, showing higher values in the transition from morning to afternoon anda subsequent decline from afternoon to nighttime. With regard to blood glucose, elevated leveis were observed at the passage from afternoon to nighttime.
