Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the zootechnica/ performance of Nile tilapia fed with probiotic Bacillus subtilis during the sex reversai phase and confirm the presence of this probiotic in the intestine. A total of 7,350 fish, M= 16.0, SO=5.2mg mean weight and M=9.6, 50=9. 1mm mean length, were stocked in 18 rectangular aquariums (1SL) ata stocking density of 5 fish.L-'. The experimental definition was completely random with three treatments (contrai, Sg and 10g of prabiotic per kg of feed) and six replications, during 30 days of experiments. Six animais per treatment were used for microbiological analysis, euthanized and decontaminated externally with a/coho/ (70%). The intestines were removed and steeped in sterilized test tubes, serially diluted to 7 0-2 and spread on to p!ates with "Tryptic Soy Agar". Zootechnical parameters were not affected by the inclusion of probiotic in the diet. Fish treated in the contrai graup did not demonstrate B. subtilis grawth on intestine cu/ture p/ates, indicating no contamination of the aquarium or contrai graup feed. ln treatments with Sg and 10g of prabiotic per kg, 7.7 Sx104 and 4. 74x105 CFU (Colony Forming Unit) were recovered respectively. The B. subtilis count grew in keeping with the leveis of prabiotic included in the diet.
