Abstract

The family Corallinaceae (Cryptonemiales, Rhodophyta)
contai"s a relative large number ofspecies, many of which still very poorly Knovyn, but ali of them calcified to a higher or lower grade. Members of the family based on purely historical grounds are divided into articulate and crustose (now artuiculated) groups.
Our study deals with the articulated forms from the State of São Paulo, livhich are: Amphiroa anastomosans Weber van Bosse, A beauvoisii Lamouroux, A, brasiliana Decaisneand A fragilissima Lamouroux. A brief historical account for each of the 4 species surveyed,
references to the original description and when necessary to the basionym for every species studied based on characteristics both of their internal and
external morphology, but aldo including additional data about their reproductive period, geographical distribution for the State of São Paulo, comments and illustrations are included.
